Telezest-L

Telezest-L (for relief from allergic symptoms)

Composition

Montelukast Sodium
Levocetirizine Hydrochloride

Telezest-L is a combination antiallergic medication containing Montelukast Sodium and Levocetirizine Hydrochloride. This dual-action formulation provides comprehensive relief from allergic symptoms by targeting multiple pathways involved in allergic reactions. The combination is particularly effective for managing seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, and chronic urticaria.

How It Works

Montelukast Sodium is a leukotriene receptor antagonist that blocks the action of leukotrienes, inflammatory mediators released during allergic reactions. By blocking these substances, it reduces inflammation in airways, decreases mucus production, and helps prevent bronchoconstriction. This action is particularly beneficial for managing respiratory allergic symptoms.

Levocetirizine Hydrochloride is a selective H1-antihistamine that blocks histamine receptors, preventing histamine from triggering allergic symptoms. It effectively reduces sneezing, itching, watery eyes, runny nose, and skin reactions associated with allergies. Levocetirizine is the active enantiomer of cetirizine, providing enhanced efficacy with potentially fewer sedative effects compared to older antihistamines.

Together, these ingredients provide dual blockade of allergic pathways, offering more comprehensive symptom relief than either agent alone.

Indications for Use

Telezest-L is prescribed for the treatment and management of allergic rhinitis (both seasonal and year-round), providing relief from nasal congestion, sneezing, itching, and rhinorrhoea. It is effective for allergic conjunctivitis symptoms including itchy, watery, and red eyes.

Healthcare providers commonly prescribe this combination for chronic idiopathic urticaria (hives). It may also be used as adjunctive therapy in mild allergic asthma, particularly when symptoms are triggered by allergen exposure. The medication is suitable for patients requiring comprehensive allergic symptom control affecting multiple systems.

Dosage and Administration

As directed by the physician.

Precautions and Contraindications

Patients with known hypersensitivity to Montelukast, Levocetirizine, or related compounds should avoid this medication. Those with severe renal impairment require dosage adjustments or may be advised against use. Patients with end-stage renal disease or those undergoing haemodialysis should not use this combination. Pregnant women should use this medication only if clearly necessary after consulting their healthcare provider.

Side Effects

Telezest-L is generally well-tolerated. Common side effects include drowsiness, fatigue, dry mouth, and headache. Some patients experience dizziness, nausea, or gastrointestinal discomfort. These effects are typically mild and often diminish with continued use. Montelukast may occasionally cause upper respiratory infections, fever, or abdominal pain.

Levocetirizine may cause urinary retention in susceptible individuals. Rarely, allergic reactions including rash, itching, or angioedema may occur. Severe reactions such as difficulty breathing or swelling of face, lips, or tongue require emergency medical care.

Drug Interactions

Central nervous system depressants including sedatives, tranquilizers, and alcohol may have enhanced effects when combined with Levocetirizine, increasing drowsiness. Patients should avoid concurrent use of multiple antihistamines. Theophylline may slightly reduce Montelukast levels but generally does not require dosage adjustment.
